You can view a full listing of the lessons included here!

A list of lab supplies, is available for purchase from Home Science Tools. View the full list here.  Some additional materials, viewable here, can be obtained from any local retailer.

Disposable gloves, disposable plastic pipettes, and sterile swabs will be used throughout this course. These can be purchased through Home Science Tools, Amazon, and even locally through many drug stores.

7 of the labs in this course require a microscope. For those students without access to a microscope, I will provide pictures and videos taken with my microscope of my own results. Students can use my results to complete the recording sheet.

After logging in to their account, the student chooses which lesson to complete.

For each lesson, the necessary materials as well as the directions for the lab are listed alongside the lab video.  A printable recording sheet is provided for the student to record any measurements or calculations.

The student will watch the video which includes a review of the relevant biology concepts covered in the lab as well as a demonstration of the experiment.  Students can decide whether to perform the experiments, or they can use my results to answer the lab questions and perform the calculations.

For labs in which calculations are performed, sample calculations are shown as part of the lab video.  Additionally, an answer key is available for each lab so that the student can check his or her work.

The student may choose what labs to complete and in what order.  Even if a student decides not to perform every lab, the videos are still worth watching since they demonstrate practical applications to the biology concepts the student is learning.

You are welcome to purchase lab supplies from whatever vendor you choose. Just be certain that if you are buying supplies elsewhere that the types and quantities of materials are the same as what is listed in the Home Science Tools lab kit.  Also, be sure that any beakers and test tubes are heat-resistant

The course can be used to supplement any biology curriculum the student is already using. This lab course was designed to correspond to topics covered in a typical high school biology course.  The labs can be done in any order, so the student can watch the videos in the order that best matches their biology course or  curriculum.

Upon purchase, the student has access to the course for one year (366 days)

Yes!  Our lab courses are ideal for use in a class or co-op setting!  If you plan to use this course with a co-op class, please contact us so we can arrange group access and special pricing.

Yes!  Since the lessons in this course can be done in any order, this course can easily be used with any textbook or curriculum.  Here is one way that my Biology Video Lab Course can be used with the 2019 Miller & Levine Text (Bee cover). Refer to this blog post for another way this lab course can be used with the Miller & Levine Biology textbook:  Secular Homeschool High School Biology Curriculum

Absolutely!  The combination of the free Crash Course Biology video series along with this video lab course is an excellent way to provide an affordable high school biology credit.  Refer to this link for one way in which the video lab lessons can be used with Crash Course Biology:  Suggested order of lessons used with Crash Course Biology

On average, the videos for each lesson run from about 15-30 minutes.  It’s in those videos that I introduce the lesson, give a quick review of the concepts covered in that lesson, set up the lab, and then go over my results.  The labs themselves can take much longer than that though.  For example, several lessons involve living plants.  Students set up the experiment, but the results may take the day (or even overnight) to complete.  When growing bacteria on petri dishes, results may not be seen for a few days.  For some of the microscopy labs, students may see different organisms over a series of days.  For lessons that take longer than a day to complete, the video lesson itself is still around 20-30 minutes.  But the student can pause the lesson while waiting on the results.  Other lessons (like modeling the cell membrane, blood typing, and animal behavior, can easily be done within an hour.
