High school and college students are expected to understand and use significant figures in their science courses.
But significant figures (also called significant digits, or “sig figs”) can be hard to understand.
In this self-paced online course, students will learn why significant digits are used in measurements. They will learn the 4 rules of identifying significant figures. They will learn and apply the rules for addition/subtraction and multiplication/division of numbers containing significant figures. They will also learn how to perform advanced operations (including logarithms) using sig figs.
Videos, practice problems, and periodic quizzes are used to help students apply what they learn throughout the course.
Whether you are considering registering for a higher science course but are uncertain about your math skills, are already registered, or are looking for supplemental help with these math topics, this series is for you! All of Dr. Moon’s instruction is clear and thorough. She presents the material in a variety of ways including video, written, and interactive practice sections, making it approachable for a variety of learners and increases comprehension. My student struggles in her math courses and was very hesitant about the math expectations in Chemistry. Working through Dr. Moon’s Math for Science Series not only helped boost her confidence, but reviewing these topics from a different perspective helped clear up a concept she previously found confusing. Thank you Dr. Moon for producing these math for science modules!
